  • Sasuke Uchiha is named after Sasuke Sarutobi, the father of the third Hokage. Sasuke Sarutobi, on the other hand, is named after a famous Japanese literary figure.
  • At first Naruto wasn’t going to be a ninja. Initially, its creators wanted him to use magic instead of ninjutsu, but he decided that this was too confusing.
  • At one point, the Naruto anime was almost canceled because an organization was unhappy with the high death toll in the series. They filed a complaint and asked one of the event sponsors to withdraw their funds. Then they looked at the show ratings let it stay on air.
  • Naruto himself technically only kills one person and that person was Yura, a jōnin, disguised as Itachi.
  • If you carefully read the first chapter of the manga, Chouji’s father can be seen on the panel as part of a group that wanted to kill Naruto.
  • All Naruto fans know the name of the hero’s favorite ramen shop! That is “Ichiraku”. And it does exist in real life too. It’s a ramen shop in Kyushu near the university that Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto, attended.

  • In the manga, if you look carefully their’s a scroll in Sasuke’s room that reads “Director’s Date !!” in conjunction to the anime director. Although it was changed in the anime to “Kishimoto Sensei !!” In reference to the original creator.
  • When you watch the American version of anime, you might wonder why Asuma keeps walking with an unlit cigarette in his mouth. This is because the smoke they emitted in the original Japanese version was actually edited.
  • In Japanese, Naruto’s catchphrase is “Dattebayo!”. It has no translatable meaning and became “Believe It!” It sounded so much better than the first f “Git ‘er done”!
  • Naruto inherited the “Dattebayo” habit from his mother Kushina, who most used to say “Dattebayo” whenever she was excited or angry. Naruto’s son Boruto inherited it and ended his sentences with “Dattebayo!”
  • In Naruto’s early drafts, Kakashi had his own trademark speech pattern. He would end his sentence with “de gozaru”, an ancient form of the Japanese copula “desu”.
  • In 2006’s Naruto: The Musical, Sakura was played by two artists instead of one. They were twin singers siblings, Mana and Kana Mikuru. They are Olson twins of the musical anime.
  • Team Seven, better known as Team Kakashi, was the first team to be passed by Kakashi.
  • Many of Kakuzu’s techniques are named after mecha from the first series of Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam. Kishimoto saw the show since childhood.

  • Summonable toads in Naruto were named after famous actors and actresses from 80s and 90s. Like: The name Gamabunta comes from Bunta Sugawara, the name Gamakens comes from Takakura Ken and the name Shima comes from Iwashita Shima.



  • The seal on Neji’s forehead differs between anime and manga. In the manga, it resembles a manji or swastika, which is a symbol of Hinduism and Buddhism. However, due to the swastika’s relationship with Nazism, in anime it was changed to “X”.
  • It’s hard to imagine Sanji from the popular One Piece being anything other than Sanji … but he was almost like Naruto! Oda Eichiro planned to name the blonde pirate Naruto because of his curly eyebrows, but with the release of the Naruto series, things changed at the same time.
  • The anime producers of Naruto planned to release it overseas from the start. They were looking for music that includes many traditional Japanese instruments such as taiko, shakuhachi, and shamisen to provide a more unusual experience for non-Japanese viewers.

  • The headbands worn in the series are actually only made because of Naruto’s glasses. Kishimoto revealed in an interview that he created a protectors for forehead because Naruto’s glasses took too long to draw every week.
  • Shukaku Gaara’s tailed beast is named after a Japanese priest who is said to have enchanted a teapot at a party so it never be empty. He was believed to be a tanuki, like Shukaku.
  • In the manga, Gaara has a red sash. It was changed in the anime to be white.



  • Masashi Kishimoto thought of the name Naruto while eating ramen. Naruto is short for Narutomaki, a type of kamaboko with a pink spiral in the middle. It is often used as a topping for ramen.
  • Kishimoto is a fan of The Matrix and was inspired by protagonist Neo when he created Gaara. He also took inspiration from the film for a number of outfits in the series.
  • Might Guy is named after Might Senpuuji and Guy Shishioh, the hot-blooded protagonists of Might Gaine and Gao Gai Gar.Rock Lee

  • Mifune’s character is a samurai with a sword which he calls Kurosawa. It is named after Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, who is best known for his samurai portraits in a number of Akira Kurosawa’s films.
  • Whenever an Akatsuki member had to remove his robe during battle, he would die in that battle.

  • As a child, Kishimoto couldn’t afford Weekly Shonen Jump and instead borrowed the magazine from a friend. Now he’s the creator of one of it’s most popular series of all time and they’re paying for it!
  • Not surprisingly, Kishimoto became a mangaka. As a baby, he painted on the walls. With his own shit.
  • From the start of the series, Kishimoto decided that there would be no guns or firearms in the Naruto world.
  • Kishimoto is from Okayama, a city near Hiroshima. His grandparents’ war stories influenced the depiction of war in Naruto.
  • Naruto and Gaara have a lot in common. Both fathers were Yondaime, their mother died when they were born, and they both loved to care for plants. Naruto’s hobby was watering plants, and Gaara liked to care for cacti. After the time skip, they were the same height and weight and they both wanted to fight Sasuke. If you add up the month and day of each of their birthdays, you get 20 both times. They were both jinchuuriki and they had since they were babies and nothing was coincidence! Kishimoto did everything on purpose to make Gaara the foil of Naruto.
  • Rumor has it that Hidan was going to have much more complicated abilities, but the editor thought it was best to shorten the fight with him and turn to Sasuke sooner.

For instance, Naruto was going to take place in an urban fantasy environment with modern fashion and technology. The pilot of the series features an investigation into killings by police, guns, and motorbikes.
  • Instead of a fox demon sealed within, Naruto was going to be the reincarnation of nine-tailed fox. And instead of the fourth Hokage who sealed the demon, the “nine powerful men” would have done the job. Of the nine, one survived becoming a high-status grumpy old man whom Naruto referred to as the “leader.” Due to their similarities, it is clear that he paved the way for the creation of the third Hokage.
  • The initial pilot cast was also very different from the final version. Most of the pilot’s main characters are not in the series and vice versa. Some of the early conceptual arts represented the Ichiraku of the ramen shop, Kakashi, Iruka, Hinata, Ibiki, Anko, and the grandfather who was similar to the Third Hokage.
  • Kishimoto felt the story was “going nowhere” and the editor advised him to introduce a rival to Naruto. This of course led to the creation of Sasuke and Sakura too!
  • Akatsuki members were all designed to look like monsters with little or no human characteristics. This is more pronounced in some members, but all of them have different characteristics that distance them from humanity. For example, Konan can be turned into paper, and Sasori is actually a puppet. Some, such as Itachi and Kisame, developed more attractive traits over time.
  • Both Boruto and Himawari were meant to have the Byakugan. But when Chapter 700 turned around, Kishimoto forgot to draw it. So Himawari got the Byakugan, but it’s up to the shows created whether Boruto will have the Byakugan or not.

  • Naruto’s outfit is based on the clothes Kishimoto himself wore when he was young.
  • Kishimoto revealed that of all the characters in the series, he identified with Naruto the most. He said his childhood was very similar to his years at the academy.

  • When Naruto was founded, his birthday, October 10, was Health and Sports Day in Japan. However, in 1999, the holiday was moved to the second Monday of October.
  • At the start of the series, Naruto was the shortest of Konoha, but later in the series ends up being the tallest in the group at 180 cm.



  • You might have noticed Naruto in one piece! In the background of chapter 766 of the manga’s front page, the man behind Nami is believed to be Naruto. He wears the changpao with the Konoha symbol and eating Luffy’s favorite food, meat. Luffy, on the other hand, eats Naruto’s favorite ramen dish.
  • In the 700th chapter of Naruto, Boruto’s graffiti includes scribbling the symbol of the Straw Hat Pirates on the forehead protector of Naruto’s statue.
  • While creating Sasuke, Kishimoto read various manga to understand what a real rival or competitor looks like. He took the ideal elements he gathered and formulated them into a relationship.
  • Sasuke was especially inspired by Yu Yu Hakusho’s Hiei. By the time the fourth great ninja war occurred, Sasuke and Naruto’s relationship had become that of Vegeta and Goku from Dragon Ball.
  • Kishimoto was very careful that Sasuke didn’t get too emotional because he had to be the opposite of Naruto. His character type was of a “cool genius”.
  • Throughout the series, Sasuke has always been the most formidable character for Kishimoto to draw. However, he became the creator’s favorite character to draw.
  • The creators initially tried to keep Sasuke’s hair short to minimize his drawing time. But as the series progressed, Sasuke’s hair grew longer along with the time it took to draw.  
  • Sasuke’s hobbies are exercising and walking. It’s not that exciting. His favorite dish is Omusubi with okaka and tomatoes. His least favorite foods are natto and anything sweet.
  • Did you know that Sasuke is actually ambiguous, usually slapping and wielding Chidori with his left hand and swinging a sword with his right. When Hagoromo asked him to raise his dominant hand, he chose his left.
  • At first, Kishimoto didn’t mean for Sakura to be a heroine in the series. In fact, he repeatedly said it was still difficult to see her like that. He described as his own inability to draw a good heroine character.
  • Kishimoto created Sakura as a girl with an inability to understand men. This was his best example of a heroine he could think of back then. He wanted to create a character that was a little annoying, but he meant well. Kishimoto liked Sakura and felt that her personality traits were common to everyone, which gave her a true sense of humanity. Kishimoto said he lacked the experience to make Sakura “cute” when he started the series. In fact, he and many manga staff agree that manga is “not funny at all”. He implies that she has gotten cuter since then.



  • One of Sakura’s most important physical features is her wide forehead. Sometimes Kishimoto was too focused on it when he was drawing it that he made it too big.
  • The name Sakura means “cherry blossom” in Japanese. Her pink hair intended look like her namesake flower and give her a Lady Gaga vibe.
  • Sasuke may hate sweet things, but Sakura doesn’t like spicy things. Her favorite foods were covered with syrup-coated anko dumplings, umeboshi, and anmitsu.Sasuke
  • Kishimoto said Team 7 Sakura would be the best ninja instructor. He also said that she is most likely to be normal of her team, despite having flaws in her personality.
  • Some other possible names for Kakashi were Kuwa, Kama, Botan, and Enoki. They mean hoe, scythe, peony, and nettle tree, respectively.
  • Due to the limited schedule for writing weekly manga, there was no way Kishimoto could plan everything in advance. Unlike some other makers, Kishimoto rarely did any research. As a result, there are many adjustments, contradictions, and gaps in the plot of the series.
  • The original plan was to make Itachi as bad as he looked. Kishimoto then thought of turning him into an anti-villain, which better explained why Itachi would mentally torture his beloved brother Sasuke for 24 hours.



  • Kyuubi was the only tailed beast Kishimoto had planned. The other jinchuuriki were later conceived. Therefore, when first introduced, Shukaku is only described as similar to Kyuubi. This is why, no one seems to know what Jinchuuriki were in the series, although they were clearly later designated as a major part of the Naruto universe.

As you grow up, you start to see that sometimes things in life don’t go right. But I created Naruto to tell the younger generation that although there’s hardship in life, you can get along. Other than that, I would rather let the audience themselves find out what they can get from Naruto.”
