Sony Playstation 4 Pro Compared to Microsoft Xbox One X!
How we spend our spare time today is of course very different from how we spent it a few years ago. The main difference is that we now spend a lot of time watching our screen than before. According to the U.S. Labor Bureau, people of all ages are spending a lot of their time watching TV, and that’s what we do with most of our free time. Well we humans do other things too like exercise, or go out with friends, but in US all the activities are dominated by pc games. According to a 2015 gaming study, 155 million Americans regularly play the game, with Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and the FIFA franchises gaining popularity. The average gamer is 35 years old and four out of five households own a game console.
The console wars have been going on for some time, battles raging mostly between the Sony Playstation, Microsoft’s Xbox, and various consoles made by Nintendo. You have to go back to 1988 before you see another competitor and that is the Sega’s Genesis console. Sega was in the spotlight, thanks to the success of Sonic the Hedgehog One and Two, which together have sold more than 21 million copies. However, Genesis is only the 15th best-selling console of all time.
The most popular so far is the Playstation2 which has sold around 155 million units. Followed by the Nintendo DS which sold 154 million units, then the Nintendo Game Boy. Microsoft’s best record on the list is the Xbox 360, which sold around 84 million units at number 6.
According to Business Insider, the Playstation 4 sold nearly 60 million units in 2017, compared to the 26 million Xbox Ones sold as of January 2017. “Put simply: Sony has a ridiculous lead over Microsoft when it comes to the video game business,”. The article said.
But why is that and can it change?
Well, one of the main factors is price. When the two consoles were released in 2013, the Xbox One was $499 and the Playstation 4 was $399, enough to shake anyone’s budget. If you look at the different online stores, the Xbox One S is still around $ 250 while the PS4 is listed on various online stores for around $ 299.
It’s also worth noting that the Microsoft Xbox One has always been more than just a gaming device. It was also intended be a home entertainment system. The Playstation 4 has always been dedicated to gaming itself.
But now we have the Playstation 4 Pro ($ 399), $ 100 cheaper than the Xbox One X ($ 499). So, which should you buy?
It all depends on your needs, as some experts say, although similar consoles, they are not “exact rivals.”
Let’s take a look under the hood, so.
The Playstation 4 Pro has 4K resolution, high dynamic range (HDR) – basically the technology that gives you impressive display quality – and, according to Sony, the graphics performance is double that of its predecessor. The console contains a 2.13 GHz 8-core processor. It has 8 GB GDDR5 and an additional 1 GB RAM for background processing. It offers integrated AMD Polaris graphics with 4.2 teraflop performance. You can also buy a virtual reality headset for this console, whereas the Xbox One X doesn’t currently have a headset. However, it will cost you over $ 400. You can’t play 4K Blu-ray discs on this console, but you can stream 4K content. Since you can’t use a 4K drive, you’ll have to shell out a lot of money on standalone players.
The Xbox One X claims to have 40 percent more power than other consoles and describes itself as the most powerful of its kind in the world. It also has 4k and HDR resolution. With an 8-core processor running at 2.3 GHz, it runs a little faster. The Xbox One X has a 12GB GDDR5. The GPU has integrated AMD graphics with 6 teraflop performance. As you can see, Microsoft rightly claims to be the most powerful console out there. So when it comes to gaming, you will experience a more realistic gaming environment.
Both consoles play true 4K games as well as what Microsoft calls “X optimized” games, and the Playstation 4 Pro calls “enhanced games.” A bonus for Xbox buyers is that they can play 4K Blu-ray discs.
If all the jargon is too hard to grasp, Wired magazine has good enough to explain it all in layman’s terms. First, Wired notes that if you want to play 4K games on your 4K console, it’s better to have a 4K TV or monitor. If not, you can buy a Hugo Boss suit and just wear it to eat at McDonalds. 4K TVs aren’t too expensive, so that shouldn’t be a problem.
But the difference in price comes from, the extra teraflop on the Xbox. This means that you can play 4K games with this console without losing frame rates. Xbox has a better chance of retaining 4K quality because of the additional teraflop. That’s why Xbox Chief Phil Spencer proudly calls the Xbox One X “the only true 4K console”. We can also give the Xbox One X a little more credit for being actually smaller than its enemy. This is because it uses a high-tech liquid cooling system in comparison to the regular Playstation fan system.
The Xbox One X is more powerful and your 4K experience will be true. It has a Blu-ray 4k device and smaller. At $ 100 cheaper, the Playstaion 4 Pro gives you slightly lower gaming quality, but you have the option of buying VR gaming headphones.
In terms of gaming, both consoles let you play old games on these new console, and some of them have been upgraded. According to some experts, if you buy a Playstation and want 4K quality, you can get Horizon: Zero Dawn, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. If you’re on an Xbox and want the same quality, you can buy Forza Motorsport 7, Madden NFL 18, and upgraded Gears of War 4. These are just a handful of the many games that are available in 4K quality.
